Newborn Session

When is the best age to photograph a newborn baby?

Newborn sessions are held at five to ten days old. Babies younger than two weeks will sleep more soundly, allowing me to position the baby in ways that create the very best portraits. Babies are also more flexible at this age. After two weeks, most babies are more alert and a bit restless, this makes posing them in the cute poses, that are so popular, difficult.

Email, text, or call me when your newborn arrives so I can get you scheduled during that time frame.

What should we expect in a newborn session?

I'm looking to create a variety of photographs of your baby, capturing how special and tiny a newborn can be. I'll do some images of the baby sleeping, the baby wrapped in soft material, and if the baby is  willing and extra sleepy, I will attempt posed shots. I often keep the area warmer than normal, so that the baby will be comfortable and relaxed.

Where will my session take place?

My home studio located at 114 Paradise Pt.

Slidell, LA, 70461

What is included?

Three hours or more at my home studio.

  • 5 Professionally Edited High Resolution Digital Images with print release.

  • Opportunity to purchase additional Professionally Edited High Resolution Digital Images with print release and/or

  • High Quality Professional Prints.

How should we dress the baby?

This is one of the most common mistakes that parents make at a baby session. Babies, especially newborns, don't typically like to be undressed and dressed. When you do wardrobe changes on a baby, they have a hard time,  settling down and being posed.

It’s not necessary to bring any clothes for the baby. Newborn babies are best photographed naked, or adorned with simple props such as wraps, soft hats, bows, or tiny tutus.  Newborn clothing never fits properly and the baby gets lost in the fabric.

Can you photograph me with the baby?

Yes, if you would like. I love when the parents choose to be a photographed with their newborn baby. If you do decide to be photographed with the baby, please wear a solid color shirt.

May I take photos during the session?

Unfortunately, no. I kindly ask you to refrain from any picture-taking during your session, even with your phone. As a professional, I want to deliver only professional photos. Shared photos of the session that is not of professional quality can take away from the session.

What if my newborn has baby acne?

I see this all the time, so don't worry, I will smooth skin and edit out blemishes.

When will I get to see my photos from the session?

I cannot guarantee a delivery date as sessions are customized to each client individually. Some sessions require more creative editing than others. The turn around time for your session to be edited and loaded into your viewing gallery is typically 4-6 weeks. Please note that holidays, or your position in the editing queue, can extend your wait time. Again, I cannot guarantee a delivery date on your edited session images.

No more waiting for a scheduled pick up time of a USB or outdated CD. As soon as your images are edited, I will send you a link to view and download your high resolution, professionally edited images along with a print release. You will also have the opportunity to purchase additional high resolution digital downloads, as well as, high quality professional prints.

How many images will I see from my session?

During the session, I take between 100-200 images. Of those images, I generally produce 5-10 images that will be professionally edited and uploaded into your personal online gallery for viewing.
